Nick Warren

You can tell when Nick Warren's on the decks. The music emanating from the man is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound. On the floor, where it really matters, his crowd experience all the peaks and troughs that make his music so unique. Locking on early, you'll hear his deeper take on house which morphs, as the club mood changes, into harder territory, music for sweating and losing yourself to. That's why Nick Warren is so respected, because he knows how to truly work a club, to take a crowd high, then higher again. That's what comes with vision and, just as importantly, experience. Nick, a music obsessive who grew up on punk, reggae and pop was, like so many DJs turned onto the power of house music in the late 80s. Living in Bristol, he'd been playing tunes for a few years before, running his own club night, Wiggle. In 1990, a new house club, Vision took the city by storm and in a perfect bit of timing, he was offered the chance to play in the upstairs room, spinning weird downbeat Balearic records and mixing house with music by The Clash and Frank Sinatra. Catching the attention of a group of guys who had their own band, he was roped in to tour with them as their DJ when they went to play America. The group was Massive Attack. As their official DJ, he began working on music of his own, even joining the Massive remixing team at one stage. At the same time, people were beginning to notice this quietly-spoken DJ from Bristol, the way that he really understood what made people dance, yet never compromised his vision of what good music should be. Here was someone, the dance music magazines said, who could rock it with the best of them, yet who also stood out as a person with their own unique style, mixing straight up house with trancier material, throwing in breakbeats to keep the flow going, playing the most up to the minute music that somehow also reflected a rich musical heritage. Joining up with another Bristol producer, Jody Wisternoff in 1994 to form Way Out West, they recorded the seminal 'Ajare' single together, a huge progressive house club hit. Then came 'The Gift', sending Nick and Jody onto Top Of The Pops and catapulting Nick into the league of the superstar DJ. Their album, 'Blue' took every single one of the pair's influences and shaped them into a groundbreaking collection of tracks that stayed in the CD players of the UK and beyond for a long, long time. Nick was now travelling the world as a DJ. Liverpool superclub, Cream offered him a residency in recognition of his talent and in 1999 he recorded his first mix, Prague, for the highly respected Global Underground mix CD series, followed by Brazil, Budapest, Amsterdam, Reykjavik, Shanghai and Paris. At present he is touring the world, working on his new GU album 'Lima' & on a new Way Out West album with Jody. Nick also works as the director of A&R at Hope Recordings.

Dave Seaman

There aren't many artists who've sound tracked the birth of dance music and are still leading its development more than two decades later. There are even less who have gifted both the club and pop scenes with unforgettable musical moments that get talked about in hushed tones years after their creation. Dave Seaman is one of a select few.

Whether it's one of his spine-tingling Global Underground or Renaissance CDs that's still burning a hole in your stereo years after its purchase, or the perfect pop of Kylie's "Confide In Me" that he co wrote, produced and remixed, there's very few with their heart in electronic music who haven't had a Dave Seaman 'moment.'

It's a commonality that everyone from clubbers at Creamfields, to the biggest recording artists on the planet share. Having devoted almost every weekend over the last 15 years to moving dancefloors from Ibiza to Iceland, Seaman has played the world's most recognised festivals and clubs in more than 70 countries throughout his career, while still lending his production nous to the music industry's A List. Along with crafting beats for Ms Minogue, Take That and Pet Shop Boys have enlisted his studio expertise, with everyone from U2, to Michael Jackson, Alanis Morissette, David Bowie and New Order having received a Seaman re-rub.

Make no mistake, his talents are unique. Few artists are able harness the creative complexity of an underground club burner and interchange it with the hook-driven dynamics of a pop cut, but Seaman has managed to do it time and time again. With massive discography of more than 60 releases and 30 remixes, his productions have gone on to feature on more than 80 other titles, released all over the globe.

Wind the clock back to when Seaman was eight years old and it?~@~Ys difficult to imagine anyone wanting to devote their life to music quite as much as the Leeds-born lad. While others indulged in pipe dreams of becoming an English Premier League star or following Neil Armstrong into space, Seaman ?~@~S much to his career councilor?~@~Ys disapproval ?~@~S knew he was destined for a life full of beats and rhythm.

30 years on from that initial boyhood dream, the places and people may have changed, but Seaman?~@~Ys passion hasn?~@~Yt. As busy as ever, he still continues to create. Whether it?~@~Ys through his own productions (check his recent stunning double A-sider ?~@~XAttack Of The Abalones/Wrong Side Business?~@~Y, along with collaborations with Josh Gabriel and Andy Chatterley) or his growing list of revered compilations, you know Seaman?~@~Ys always on the frontline of electronic house music.

Jody Wisternoff

Jody's biog is deceptive, as he's achieved so much in a short space of time. Selling over 100,000 albums and delivering a Top 40 hit with his band Way Out West would be enough for most people. Yet along side their 3 Albums, countless remixes and production duties on everyone from the astonishingly cool (James Holden, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Orb, Roni Size) to the ridiculous (Natalie Imbruglia) Jody has managed to create music that not only elevates every dance floor but has also been used heavily in film and TV,(The OC, CSI, Grey's). 2004/2005 also saw a world tour on their own and sharing billing with Faithless and festival slots for Radio 1 at Glastonbury, Creamfields Prague, Creamfields UK and Argentina. Jody's sound has been his global meal ticket. But let's rewind a little to before all that happened, he'd already won the DMC Mixing championship regional heats at the criminally young age of 15, torn every rave apart in the early 90s as Sub Love with Full Cycle's DJ Die and djfd at most clubs Worldwide worth djing at, then got the band together (Way Out West) by the time he was twenty and on single three tore up the airwaves and the TOTP studio, with partner Nick Warren on their big hit "The Gift". Right now, with a new Way Out West album slowly taking shape (the fourth) he has been producing solo works (Cold Drink Hot Girl / Nostalgia / Starstrings), and is djing on a global scale! You can also catch Jody every month on friskyRadio!

Nick Muir

Nick is probably best known in the dance world for his long standing association with John Digweed and his Bedrock project although he has achieved a good degree of success as an artist in his own right. Originally a pro session keyboard player the advent of computer based sequencers drew him into the world of producing and it was around that time he met John. They started producing together almost immediately and now have a string of productions behind them and the Bedrock label has become one of the most respected brands in the field. Nick continues to write and produce club music with John and on his own, regularly composes for TV and film and does the occasional DJ gig when time allows.

Max Cooper

One of RA's top DJs of 2011. "One of the greatest new talents to emerge on the dance scene in the last few years" - Skrufff.com "Consistently proves himself to be one of the most peerlessly beautiful recording artists in modern dance music" - IDJ "One to keep a close eye on" - Fabric blog "Haunting" - Clash magazine "Beautiful, hypnotic techno that should be listened to by anybody with even a passing interest in intelligently geared dance music" - Electrorash '"The End of Reason," a truly sublime beatless tour de force that recalls Philip Glass, Aphex Twin's most serene moments and even Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No. 3" - Resident Advisor The facts are easy to establish: Max Cooper has more than 50 original releases, tracks and remixes under his belt, from glitchy reinterpretations of big bands like Hot Chip and Au Revoir Simone to straight dancefloor 12"s like his breakthrough "Serie" originals and remixes for names like Agoria, Dominik Eulberg, Extrawelt, Pig and Dan, Kaiserdisco and Sasha. The approach, meanwhile, is anything but simple. A melancholy composer whose live sets can raise blisters in a club, Cooper is as comfortable writing abstract electronica as he is writing dancefloor techno 12"s . A rationalist with an otherworldly, idealistic side, Cooper is also a wildly creative musician who until recently had a day job as a sober scientist. And he's swung from extreme to extreme since he first took to the decks 11 years ago. As Cooper sees it, there's conflict, but it's part of the music-writing process. Each side of his personality sparks ideas off the other, and what remains constant is his own unique and starkly emotional style. From his breakthrough trilogy of "Serie" releases on Traum Schallplatten - the first released in 2009 and with each track inspired by a different scientific or mathematical concept - Cooper has built a reputation for one-off originals, killer remixes and challenging DJ and live sets. Since his first release in 2007, his back catalogue now includes two mainstream Hype Machine smashes with reworks of Hot Chip and Portishead, several Beatport genre top 10s, work with the visual artists Whiskas fX and Nick Cobby and an increasing number of collaborations with artists a long distance from Cooper's dancefloor beginnings. With his time now mainly spent writing and touring music, Cooper continues to release his own originals, with 'The End Of Reason' described by Resident Advisor as "a truly sublime beatless tour de force that recalls Philip Glass, Aphex Twin's most serene moments and even Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No. 3", and the UK's IDJ magazine saying that Cooper "consistently proves himself to be one of the most peerlessly beautiful recording artists in modern dance music". Stark, emotive and original, Cooper is, according to Skrufff.com, "One of the greatest new talents to emerge on the dance scene in the last few years".

Jim Rivers

2006 was the year that Jim Rivers catapulted into the limelight with his hit debut single 'Restore', which was released on seminal label Saw Recordings. With plaudits coming through thick and fast, there was no time to put his feet up and enjoy the moment - filling up his record box with an arsenal of killer tracks, a new zeal (and passport) following this success, Jim embarked on a worldwide tour, taking him to clubs such as Pacha Buenos Aires, Zouk Singapore, Arma 17 Moscow, and AIR in Tokyo. Crossing the many bridges between house and techno with relaxed dignity, Jim's rare mix of educator and entertainer has undoubtedly played a mammoth part in his success and regular callings to explore foreign shores. As a refreshing rebellion against the one-dimensional progressive blueprint that deluged from juvenile producers grasping at stardom, Jim stood out from the crowd; emerging as both a DJ and producer who could inject clubs with warm musicality and ramp up energy levels on the dance floor. Jim's firm technical grasp for delivering stunning productions - as highlighted on his own tracks and remixes on sought after labels such as Saved, Simple and Four:Twenty - is coupled with the strong creative ability to coax original sounds out of them. Bursting with soul and character, Jim has also been called upon to remix tracks for Nic Fanciulli, Quivver and Steve Mac amongst many others. 2008 saw Jim collaborate with Paolo Mojo that raised the benchmark, taking Jim's sound to a bigger and broader canvas. Releasing 2 tracks; 'Darkplace' on Paolo's own Oosh imprint, and the powerful 'Ron Hardy Said', which was signed by Eric Prydz for his techier Mouseville Records. Flooded with melody and washed with driving synthesis; remixes of Milton Jackson & Sei A's "Glasgow Kiss" and Morgan Page & Gregory Shiff feat. Astrid Suryanto "All I Know" on Bedrock swiftly followed.

ABOUT FRISKY LOVES THE UK

The Concept: Pick a region, usually a country, and showcase its electronic dance music to the world. The hand-picked DJs from the friskyRadio robots are sure to paint a unique picture of whats hot in that part of the world.

The Show: friskyRadio Loves...

The History: It all began with Argentina. Back in 2005, we had an idea: Why not do a show solely on Argentina, where some of the most passionate friskyRadio DJs and fans come from. Indeed, the first friskyRadio Loves Argentina wasnt even called "friskyRadio Loves Argentina," for even we didnt know what a unique concept and show we were pioneering. At the time, there was simply nothing like it anywhere: not on Internet Radio, not in FM radio. Like so many things on friskyRadio - we were the first to bring the 'Country/Region' showcase concept to the world. Since then have visited well over 30 countries or regions, from Russia to Finland, from Holland to DENVER and everything in between.
