EELKE KLEIJN
 |
In between the wave of DJs and producers that the 90s brought forth, Eelke's story starts at the tender age of 17. After having worked in a music store for 4 years, mostly on the synthesizer and studio department, his interest in house music had grown rapidly.
Eelke's first release came out in 2003, on the at that time newly established Segment record label. Although this was a 250-copy limited pressing, it reached a few high players including John Digweed and Seb Fontaine. Overall reactions were great and '4.5 Billion Years' is still a much sought after record these days.
His follow up EP on Segment records did very well again, getting plays from Steve Gerrard and Anthony Pappa among others. It was also included on Andrew.K's compilation 'Flavours'. Lately Eelke's releases have been getting large support with one of his latest EP.s, Consequences, getting played by John Digweed, Hernán Cattáneo and Sasha.
Eelke refuses to pin himself down to one style though. As one of the two producers behind the M.I.D.O.R. project he continues to work on the tougher edge of dance music. Together with his partner in crime Rutger van Bostelen they have had large support from almost every big DJ out there, including Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and Deep Dish. In 2005 they gave this project an entirely new perspective with the launch of their label Skyrise Records and a massive change in sound, which was received with large enthusiasm.
Besides his work as a producer, Eelke has also been gaining fame as a DJ. His unique blend of progressive and (tech)house has given him a very distinct sound. In 2005 Eelke was asked to become a resident at Purple Snow events in Belgium. He also holds a monthly show at the well known radio station ETN.fm. Today his sound can be heard beyond the borders of Holland ever more frequently.
With a discography of over 40 releases up to date and considering the fact that he is only 22 years of age, Eelke is definitely someone to keep your eye on!
