d-phrag | March 21 2005

d-phrag is a moniker of Ivan Philipov, 35 years old web & graphic designer. He always was a passionate about many different styles of music - as many people of his generation listened to heavy metal(mostly LA glam bands), then new wave - especially The Cure, Duran Duran and Arcadia; and always loved jazz fusion. 5 years ago he discovered Astral Projection and was really impressed - so, his love & passion for electronic music begun with goa trance and yeah, some Prodigy tracks.

At some point Ivan discovered the Northern Exposure series and Global Undergound compilations. These really pushed his musical boundaries - he was amazed by DJ's like Sasha, Digweed, Oakenfold, Kleinenberg... In 2003 he decided to see what is so special about DJ-ing and tried some DJ software - discovering the joy of smooth transition between two tracks that seem completely different, the joy of leading the listener's experience to whatever you like... dphrag admits - "I'm not a real life deejay, with all the vinyl cases and expensive earphones. I do mixes for my own pleasure and rarely I do a mixsets for my friend's birthay parties, as well as some radiomixes". This makes him one of the most underground DJ's ever, as d-phrag don't have any public performances.

d-phrag don't have a particular preferences when choosing music to mix - it could be a melodic progressive house, even trance (Exfinity series, for example); it could be progressive breaks; it also could be a dark, tribal iberican tunes (like the Deep Transmissions series) - whatever mood he's in.
